Cyberscapes, consist of multiple layers, e.g., Google placemarks, Wikipedia articles, geotagged Flickr, Twitter Tweets, etc., but the metro maps are limited to user generated placemarks.
The examples of New York's and Capetown's cyberscapes below illustrate how these cyberscapes vary over location and topic. The white box in each map indicates the area for which we have data. Stay tuned....

ReplyDeletewhat is a user generated placemark?
ReplyDeleteDudes, love you dearly, but it's Cape Town not Capetown. Oh, and would love to see the corresponding crime references for Cape Town - any reason why they're not shown here?
ReplyDeleteLexington? One-third the size of Louisville. Not a major city. What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteHey there! We live in Lexington!
ReplyDeleteI think there is plenty value in visualizing small/mid-sized cities rather than just large cities. Also, can you do this using symbols with simple changing color rather than increasing size AND changing color. The big dots create a visual focus but obscure geographic breakpoints that may indicate unique or unusual patterns at a smaller scale.
ReplyDeleteThe crime spike on Wall Street in Manhattan is probably not due to muggings, but instead content related to the banking crisis, bailouts, etc.
